Location Scouting

Walton-on-the-Naze Beach

Disadvantages
Walton is about an hours drive away from our current location so if we find any of the shots do not look the way we want when we get the film into editing then it will be harder to go back and re-film scenes. The weather can be quite unpredictable so if the day turns out to be bright and sunny then this would not suit to mood of our film, also if it was a very windy day then there would be an issue with hearing the actors dialogue. We would also need to film when the tide is out so this could prove a problem if we get the timings on the tide wrong.
Advantages
A beach is what we feel is an ideal location for our film opening and it will give it an independent film look, which fits in with the look we were going for with regards to our opening. Walton beach is not an overly busy beach at this time of year, so there would not be too many interruptions with filming and would not be too many people around on the beach that we would have to get permission from if they ended up in the frame.

Broomfield Church

Disadvantages
As the scene that would be filmed in the church if may be difficult for us to get permission to film in it. It also is also quite a busy church, which holds a service every Sunday so this limits the days we could film and make it even harder for us to get permission.
Advantages
Despite possible problems with getting permission to film it would be ideal for a funeral scene of the main character Katie, and it would also help make it more realistic. The church is local to us so it would be easy to get to and would be easy to go back to if we felt we needed to re-shoot any scenes.

Quale Road-Springfield

Disadvantages
When filming on the street we would need to use an establishing shot this means that we would have to get permission from every house owner whose house was in the frame. The road may also be quite busy with cars coming up and down the road, this not what we want in the opening and it could also prove a safety risk.
Advantages
The road looks like a family friendly area and where a normal family would live. It would also help set the scene of the main characters lifestyle and establish to the audience where they live.

Office Space

Disadvantages
As we would use this location as a doctors surgery there could be difficulties with having to re-arrange furniture to get the look of a doctors surgery. We would also need to get permission to film in this location as it is an office of a company.
Advantages
Despite us having to re-arrange furniture, the office would be an ideal location for a doctors surgery if all the right props were in place, such as a stethoscope.  The use of a doctors surgery would also help get across to the audience that the main character Katie does have an illness.

A Bedroom

Disadvantages
Using this bedroom means the posters and pictures on the walls would have to be taken down as it is personal and does not fit in with the Katie's character. A bedroom is also quite a small space to film in, this is problematic because to get the best look we would want to use a variety of different camera angles and our movement is limited in a small space such as a bedroom.
Advantages
Using the main characters bedroom would help display parts of character and what type of person Katie is.
