Mise en Scene Considerations

Within our film opening there are features we need to consider with regards to props, costume, location and lighting.

Due to the fact our opening takes place on the beach, our actors will not require many props as they do not interact with much besides each other. The one thing we will need to provide and use is a shell that looks good on camera and doesn't blend too much into the sand before our actor picks it up off of the beach.

The character of Katie should be wearing a black hoodie and blue coat with blue jeans and black converse. The lack of colour has implications of sadness and black has a connotation of death, which is what happens to Katie at the end of the film so our active audience will be able to pick up on this subtle hint before the film even fully begins. The clothes are also suitable for a character her age.

The character of Amy is brighter with a green parka jacket and wearing dark blue jeans and blue converse. The added colour makes her seem brighter and more confident than Katie and will not give the impression that there is a possibility she could die. The clothes are also suitable for a character her age.

The location will need to have a pier as we wish to film from the end of it. Therefore, the location will need to be either Walton-on-the-naze or Clacton-on-sea as these are the two closest beaches with a pier that we could possibly film from.

Because we are filming at the beach, the lighting will be natural and so we do not need to think about getting a room properly lit.
